This was not a typical wedding… at least not for me. My journey to be present began in 1997 when I met the lady that would become my wife. Now, I was standing in a stone walled cathedral in the Basque country, on the north coast of Spain, with my three children and wife in pews behind me. In front of my camera stood one of the most gorgeous couples I’ve ever seen… Nathan and Udane. You see, Nathan is my wife’s brother. And Udane is his beautiful Basque bride. So from the moment my children stepped out of the plane, we were immersed in the experience of this very special wedding. And like all weddings, the process of being wed began long before the wedding day. But unlike most weddings I’ve photographed, we got to do it European style – and celebrate for days. I love this about the Spanish culture – the wedding celebrations not only spanned time, they included the town.
As you’ll see, Nathan and Udane aren’t typical either. Apart from being ridiculously good looking, they have a warm and friendly nature that has engaged lasting friendships the world over. Guests arrived from every corner of the globe to be part of this Aussie surfer’s wedding to his Basque girlfriend. Come on in to the wedding. Nathan and Udane would love to have you there.
